Our research

The museum’s scientists document the diversity of life on Earth, the interactions between organisms, and their roles and functions within the ecosystem. A thorough understanding of the species is essential for this. Therefore, the researchers collect organisms and examine them morphologically in order to distinguish the species from one another with precision and classify them taxonomically.

Our collections

The natural history collections constitute Senckenberg’s largest and most significant research infrastructure. With approximately 40 million specimens, they represent the largest natural history collection in Germany and are likely the sixth largest in the world.
